Chuchart Jewellery

About ChuchartChuchart Sarunnayawatsin was born in 1981 Bangkok, Thailand. After finishing his BA in painting and applied arts at the Silpakorn University he completed his Master of Art in Jewellery, silver-smithing & related products at the Birmingham City University in 2009. His educational background helps him to transforms visuals art inspirations into jewellery.

In his understanding, the basis of social structure is the family and its internal relationship has always been the main inspiration. Each generation nurtures the next, transmitting wisdom to build a community. The optimism and support of the family help to create the foundation of ordinary life. Living together means teaching each other to understand the effects of the passage of time. When we talk about home we find ourselves talking about our lives, our beliefs, our relationship, our mortality and who we are in the world.

“In the order of values, the old and new houses both constitute a community of memory and image. Thus the house is not experienced from day to day only, on the thread of a narrative, or in the telling of our own story”. John, R. Stilgoe, 1994: page 5

We all have our ideal image of home in our minds, which is created by a combination of memories, happy events, sentimental emotions and comfort. It is important for Chuchart to select materials that support his narrative and give character to each piece. The combination of carefully selected wood, metal and different thread creates a vivid contrast. He found that treating the surface of the wood in different ways implies character and experience, thereby he aims to create an exchange of emotion between wearer and viewer - this allows them to travel into their own personal memories and explore their story of home and belonging.
